NSNexus by State

Sales Tax Nexus Calculator

Enter your sales into any US state and instantly see whether you have economic nexus and need to register, collect, and remit sales tax there.

How this calculator works

The calculator applies each state's current (2026) economic nexus threshold — the dollar amount and/or transaction count that triggers a sales tax collection obligation — against the values you enter.

Most states use a single-metric rule ($100,000–$500,000 in gross sales) or an OR rule (either $100,000 OR 200 transactions). New York and Connecticut use AND logic — both thresholds must be met. The calculator handles each pattern automatically.

Limitations to be aware of

  • This tool only covers economic nexus. You may also have physical nexus — employees, warehouses, Amazon FBA inventory, or trade show attendance — in states where your revenue is below threshold.
  • Marketplace-facilitated sales (Amazon, Etsy, eBay) are typically excluded from your threshold calculation in most states. Enter only your direct-to-consumer revenue. See how marketplace facilitator rules apply state by state in California, Texas, and Florida.
  • Thresholds look back either at the current or prior calendar year depending on the state — the calculator assumes the prior 12 months.
  • This is informational only and is not legal or tax advice. Consult a licensed CPA before registering.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I have economic nexus in a state?
You have economic nexus once your sales into a state cross that state's published threshold — most states use $100,000 in annual gross sales, and some add a 200-transaction trigger. Enter your sales and transaction count above and the calculator compares them against each state's current 2026 threshold. Crossing it generally means you must register, collect, and remit sales tax there.
Do Amazon, Etsy, or eBay sales count toward my nexus threshold?
In most states, sales made through a registered marketplace facilitator are excluded from your own economic nexus count because the marketplace collects and remits the tax. Enter only your direct-to-consumer revenue. Marketplace rules vary by state, so confirm against the official state source before relying on the exclusion.
What's the difference between economic nexus and physical nexus?
Economic nexus is triggered purely by your sales volume into a state. Physical nexus comes from a physical connection — employees, an office, a warehouse, or Amazon FBA inventory stored in the state. This calculator only checks economic nexus, so you can still owe tax from physical presence even when your revenue is below the threshold.
Which states use a transaction count instead of a dollar threshold?
Most states use a dollar threshold alone or a dollar-OR-transaction rule (commonly $100,000 OR 200 transactions). A few, including New York and Connecticut, use AND logic — you must meet both the dollar and transaction tests. The calculator applies each state's exact rule automatically.
Is the sales tax nexus calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free and runs in your browser using each state's published 2026 economic nexus thresholds — no signup required. It is informational only and is not legal or tax advice.
