What the free preview and the full report show
The free preview shows the period your file covers, how many states have a crossed threshold, and how many more are at 80% or more of one. State names stay hidden until you buy.
The full report ($39) lists all 50 states with the sales and transactions in each state’s measurement window, the percentage of the threshold reached, the date it was crossed, registration timing where the state sets one, next steps, and links to the official Department of Revenue pages. You can download the table as CSV and save the report as a PDF.
How to export your sales
- Shopify: Orders → Export → All orders (or a date range) → CSV for Excel. Line items of one order are counted as one transaction; the shipping province is used as the state.
- Amazon: Seller Central → Reports → Fulfillment → All Orders (or Order Reports) → download the .txt file. Every row is treated as a marketplace-facilitated sale; you can untick that.
- WooCommerce: export orders with an order-export plugin, including the order date, order number, status, shipping state and order subtotal or total columns.
- Stripe: Payments → Export → all columns. The card or shipping address state is used, so payments without an address are left out and counted in the data-quality summary.
- Anything else: use the sample CSV as a template:
date, ship_to_state, amount, transaction_id, marketplace.
Export at least the last 24 months: most states look back over the current and previous calendar year.
How the report is calculated
Thresholds come from the same verified state data as our nexus calculator and economic nexus map, including each state’s dollar and transaction tests and whether it uses AND or OR logic. For every state we apply the measurement window recorded in our data — previous or current calendar year, previous calendar year only, a rolling 12 months, quarter-end tests, or Connecticut’s 12 months ending September 30 — and find the first date your running total reached the threshold.
Where our data does not record a state’s window, marketplace rule or sales base, the report says so next to the number instead of guessing. See our methodology and sources.
Limitations
- Physical nexus (employees, offices, inventory such as Amazon FBA stock) is not assessed.
- Home-rule and local jurisdictions are not assessed — for example Colorado home-rule cities, Alabama local taxes, Louisiana parishes and Alaska local sales taxes.
- The report cannot tell taxable from exempt sales in your file. States that count only taxable or retail sales are flagged, because your real figure there may be lower.
- Each state’s current threshold is applied to every period in your file.
- It is informational only and is not tax or legal advice.

Frequently asked questions
- Does my sales data get uploaded to your servers?
- No. The file is read and summarized by JavaScript in your browser. Raw orders are never sent anywhere. To survive the trip to Stripe checkout, the browser keeps only per-state daily totals in its own local storage, and you can clear them with "Use a different file".
- What do I get for $39?
- A full per-state table for your file: sales and transactions in each state’s measurement window, the percentage of the threshold reached, the date each threshold was crossed, registration timing where the state sets one, next steps with the official Department of Revenue link, a CSV export and a print-ready layout. It is a one-time payment, not a subscription.
- Which exports are supported?
- Shopify orders exports, Amazon order reports (tab-separated or CSV), WooCommerce order exports from common export plugins, Stripe payments exports, and our generic template (date, ship-to state, amount, optional transaction id, optional marketplace flag). Columns are detected automatically and you can change the mapping.
- How are marketplace sales handled?
- Rows marked as marketplace sales (all Amazon order report rows, or a marketplace column in the template) are counted or left out per state, following the rule recorded in our state data. Where we have not recorded that state’s rule, they are counted and the report also shows your direct-sales-only figure.
- Is this tax advice?
- No. The report applies each state’s published economic nexus threshold to the numbers in your file. It does not assess physical nexus, local or home-rule taxes, or the taxability of what you sell. Confirm with the state or a CPA before you register or file.
